According to a Wednesday report, staff from the January 6 panel have expressed their frustration at Rep. Liz Cheney, for focusing too much of the final report on former President Donald Trump, at cost of other aspects. The Washington Post.
15 former and current staffers spoke out to The Post, claiming that Cheney, the vice chair of the committee, exerted high levels control over the investigation as well as the final report. Some staff members felt that Cheney focused on Trump to her political advantage.
“We all came out of prestigious jobs and we dropped what we did because we were told that this would be an important fact finding investigation that would inform public,” a former member of the committee said to The Post. “But when did it happen?” [the committee]Many of us were discouraged when Cheney 2024 became a Cheney campaign.”
Cheney is among two Republicans that joined the committee. This agreement will expire at the close of the yearIt is highly unlikely that it will be renewed in a Republican-controlled House. Cheney’s hard work on the committee and her staunch opposition to Trump have raised her profile nationally and won the admiration of some Democrats.
However, her political standing in the GOP has been affected.
