James, Viscount Severn 14, Queen II’s youngest grandchild is standing vigil over her coffin

James, Viscount Severn (Queen Elizabeth II’s youngest grandchild), joined his cousins at the table as they wereRespectedOn Saturday, the late monarch.

James, the 14 year-old son Prince Edward and Sophie the Countesss Of Wessex, participated in a quiet family vigil during the queen’s sitting-in-state at Westminster Hall.

The vigil was attended by the queen’s seven other grandchildren, including James’ sister Lady Louise, 18 and cousins Prince William, 40, Prince Harry, 38, Peter Phillips, 44,  Zara Tindall, 41, Princess Beatrice, 34, and Princess Eugenie, 32.

The teenager stood with his head down as he defended his grandmother’s coffin. As his parents Edward and Sophie watched, the teenager was also present as they watched from a viewing platform.

James wore the commemorative coins that the queen gave him, as did his male cousins. He pinned his 2022 Platinum Jubilee and 2012 Diamond medals to his black suit.

Members of the public witnessed the family vigil. They waited for 16 hours in line to pay respects to Queen Elizabeth who died on Sept. 8.

The vigil was attended by the queen's seven other grandchildren including James' sister Lady Louise.

The stream of mourners continued to flow byThe royals As they stood guard behind the queen’s coffin, until the vigil was over at 6:15pm.

Hello! The magazine Hello! reported that the Wessexes attended the grandchildren’s Vigil to support their teenaged children who are much younger than their cousins.

Sophie, who had a close relationship to Queen Elizabeth, was seen looking teary eyed as she watched the ceremony.

James rarely makes public appearances, as he prefers to be in the background. People magazine was told by a royal source that James’s grandchildren wanted to attend the vigil at King’s invitation.

James and Louise live a relatively private life, aside from attending royal events together with their parents. Edward and Sophie did not give their children the title of prince or princess to them, but they might choose to keep the titles for themselves after turning 18.

A 1917 decree by King George V states that the children and grandchildren of a sovereign reigning have priority. The automatic right To the titles of prince or princess, and HRH (His/Her Royal Hireness).

The Countess de WessexIn a 2020 interview with The Times of London, Edward and her explained their decision not to give their children titles.

She stated, “We try to get them to understand that they are likely to need to work for a living.” We decided not to use HRH titles. They do have them and could use them as early as 18, but I find it highly unlikely.”

James, 14 years old, is almost the same age as Prince William or Prince Harry when they walked alongside Princess Diana’s coffin on Sept. 6, 1997. Harry was 12, while William was 15. 

In a 2017 BBC documentary, William described taking part in the funeral procession from Kensington Palace to Westminster Abbey as “one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, that walk.”

The Prince of Wales added, “It felt almost like she was there.” [Diana]”He almost walked beside us to help us get through it.”

William and Kate, Princess of Wales, received well-wishers from outside Sandringham on Thursday as they looked at floral tributes left out by the public.

Jane Wells, a mourner, told the Telegraph that William had shared with him his thoughts about joining the Queen’s funeral procession Thursday.

Wells said that Wells told him how difficult it was yesterday, and how it reminded his mother’s funeral.

William and King Charles attended the Westminster Hall ceremony to honor Queen Camilla after the procession. James, Louise and their other royal cousins were also there.
