Republican George Logan was defeated in Connecticut’s 5th Congressional District by Jahana Hayes (Democratic Rep.).

Candidates for Connecticut’s 5th Congressional district

Hayes, who is currently serving her second term as a US House member, sits on the Committees of Education and Labor and Agriculture, where she is the Chairwoman of the Subcommittee on Nutrition, Oversight and Department Operations.

Before her time in CongressShe was the history teacher at John F. Kennedy High School, Waterbury, Connecticut for 15 years. In 2016, she received the National Teacher of Year distinction.

Hayes’ focus in Congress has been on equity access to quality education, affordable healthcare, and veteran issues. 

Hayes became the first Black woman elected to Connecticut’s Congress in 2018. 

Logan, Hayes’ challenger, is an a Former two-term senator from the stateRepresentative of Connecticut’s 17th Senate district.

He was the assistant Republican leader and the ranking member of the Human Services and Veterans Affairs Committees in the state Senate. 

Voting history in Connecticut’s 5th Congressional District

Connecticut’s 5th Congressional Division runs along its western border. It includes the cities of New Britain and Meriden. It is the most Democratic-leaning in a state with an all-Democratic congressional delegation.
