Ivey the Service Dog and Governor Ivey

Governor Kay Ivey received a special visitor to the Alabama Governor’s Mansion on Thursday. BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC)

Ivey is a Labrador Retriever 12-week-old who can be used as a mobility support or seizure alert dog.

According to Governor Ivey, the work Service Dogs Alabama does to serve our state’s disabled children, adults, and veterans “really changes lives.” Although they are difficult to find and expensive, working dogs of this class have an enormous positive impact on those who receive them. I’m honored to have a life-changing dog share my name and I’m so proud that this charity exists here in Alabama.

Service Dogs Alabama offers psychological and medical assistance dogs to children, adults, and disabled veterans. Service Dogs Alabama also provides facility dogs for courts, state agencies, schools and classrooms that are subject to stress. These dogs are trained to disrupt behavior and intervene in stressful situations.

Although there are difficulties, our goal is clear: to maintain the highest training standards so that we can develop the best service dog for our beneficiaries across Alabama. Jeff Parker, Service Dogs Alabama Executive director, stated that while there are challenges. Ivey is just 12 weeks old and already has the qualities that make her a highly effective service dog. I’m confident she will enhance the quality of life of her recipient.

Story: Service Dogs Alabama placed over 130 service dogs throughout the state since its inception.

Tallulah, a 2019-born service dog, received training assistance from WBRC FOX6 News. This made them proud.
