It’s time we crown ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ the best fall movie

We are in autumn, which means that fall movies are back in fashion. The delicious fall feast includes everything from hearty comfort foods to warm you up, to the hearty main courses of rom-coms. The Halloween movie is the final bite before you go to sleep with Freddy Krueger.

We’ve been blessed with an incredible harvest over the years, but while the season typically has you reaching out fOr that Hocus Pocus or Sally and Harry: When Harry Met Sally rewatch, there’s a neglected pumpkin in the harvest’s pile. An overlooked courtier in fall cinema’s royalty. The absolute master of autumn: Prada is for the Devil

Unenlightened naysayers will reduce David Frankel’s masterpiece to “just a rom-com.” But the truth is, Prada is for the Devil isn’t one meal in that autumn feast, it’s the whole menu.

Prada is for the DevilIt is a fall fashion dream.

One thing Prada is for the Devil Many fall movies don’t feature seasonal fashion, which is something that many of them do. We’re not talking about cozy knitwear. This is actual fashion. The coats. The scarves. The Chanel boots. Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway), gives it all. The four-minute video is amazing. Madonna’s style glow-up montage is — dare I say — more autumnal than the trees in Central Park at the moment.

If you’re seeking a little bit of the dark academia aesthetic, look no further than Andy’s head-to-toe Chanel little black dress with the white collar and oh-so-gorgeous D’Orsay pumps. If you’re trying to be more colorful this autumn, her green overcoat with the leopard print collar is waiting for you. If you’re a casual, tote bag-wearing girlie, her iconic brown leather jacket and black turtleneck ensemble demand your attention.

The film is one huge, gorgeous fall fashion mood board. It is unlike any other autumn-coded film in its attention to detail.

Autumnal divine.

The Devil Wears Prada This is the best romcom.

Nate can be annoying Yes, absolutely. But is Andy’s multi-faceted trail of romance — from the average Brooklyn beau to the euphoric excitement of a Parisian one-night stand — Everything a rom-com should have? It is.

Watching Andy gracefully become this season’s bachelorette with Nate (Adrian Grenier) and Christian Thompson (Simon Baker) as dual contenders for her affection is beyond entertaining. It’s scandalous. It’s character-defining. And it’ll have you rooting for one bachelor over the other. Every rom-com heroine requires a slump. AndPrada is the Devil’s Clothes is equal parts heartbreak as it is love, with a single Andy left questioning everything she’s lost because of her job.

One can even argue that the “rom” in Prada is for the Devil entirely stems from Andy’s evolved friendship with Emily (Emily Blunt). From mutual aversion to becoming each other’s trusted confidantes in the ruthless world of high fashion, Emily and Andy’s enemy-to-friends pipeline deserves so much more hype. This film also features a beautiful portrayal of feminine love.

The Devil Wears Prada It’s a Halloween movie.

What is the difference between a Creature feature? A frightening monster that is at the root of all mishaps. A monster that’s not from this world. A monster that can be seen using any method necessary.

Miranda Priestly (Meryl Steep) is all these things.

She’s the film’s main antagonist, who delightfully relishes in the bemusing of a poor Andy. Although she looks like a typical New Yorker, she isn’t actually from this world. Miranda is not from the ordinary plebeians that I know. Look at the way everyone shakes and quivers when Miranda enters any space. Is it possible for an average person to command such power and inspire such fear? She is the devil (who wears Prada).

She also boasts a titular characteristic to a creature in any feature — a signifying sound. While the alien in PredatorMiranda will ring whenever Andy calls. It’s a terrible ringtone. It’s a ta-na na na na. It’s almost like knives scraping against a wall. Miranda is waiting to help you hide any children who aren’t dressed properly.

It’s high time Prada is for the DevilIt is the best fall movie. It is a perfect movie for fall. The film lasts just over an hour and runs for 49 minutes. With love, scares, overcoats, and more, it’s time to release yourself from the shackles of Sally and Harry: When Harry Met SallyThis is the ultimate masterpiece of autumn cinema. Billy Crystal, please, a white sweater knit for fall? Groundbreaking.
