Is the Google Pixel Watch waterproof or not? It’s complicated

There’s a new smartwatch on the scene, and it comes to you courtesy of Google, the company that brings you the Pixel 7 and Pixel7 Pro flagship Pixels smartphones. As a direct competitor to smartphones Apple WatchAnd Samsung Galaxy WatchThe Google Pixel WatchThe Pixel Family’s newest member, “” includes many safety and health features that run on the Pixel. Wear OS 3.2 platform.

Google Pixel has a round-faced design and is made of recycled stainless steel and Corning Gorilla Glass. The traditional design of the Google Pixel is reminiscent classic watches. It also features a tactile crown. It records information about your health through heart rate and sleep tracking. An ECG app allows you to assess your heart rhythm for AFib. It employs Fitbit’s activity tracking to record stats and monitor your progress.

Your smartwatch will allow you to do things like swimming, running, and gymnastics, which can all be done with ease. Or maybe you just want a watch you don’t have to worry about while in the shower. The Google Pixel Watch is up to the task?

Google claims that the Pixel Watch meets ISO standard 22810,2010 water protection requirements. This is the same as the Apple Watch or the Samsung Galaxy Watch. The Google Pixel Watch is waterproof, but not completely. Moreover, despite the fact that Google says you don’t have to worry about splashes, the company warns that even this water resistance is not permanent and will drop over time with normal wear, not to mention damage. You can damage your watch by dropping it accidentally. The Google Pixel Watch was not designed for shallow water. NotUse it for high-velocity, high-temperature water activities.

What does the 5 atm signify?

ATM stands to Standard Atmospheres, which for smartwatches refers to the water pressure — not depth — that a device can withstand as measured in meters. Technically, a 5 Atm watch can be submerged in water for up to 164 feet (or 50 meters). That’s calculated by multiplying the atm rating by 10 to equal 50 meters.

There is so much hocus pocus surrounding measuring atmospheres. It wouldn’t be simpler to just multiply the rated value by 10 and get on with it. No, it’s more complicated than that because the starting point for atmospheric pressure is sea level, which is defined as 10 meters or 33 feet. Each 10 foot you drop below sea level adds 1 bar (33ft or 10m) to atmospheric pressure. The depth measurement is not a measure of depth, but only static pressure at that point.

Google has not tested the Pixel Watch at 50 meters water pressure.

Although Google has not been very clear about how much water the Pixel Watch can withstand, it is based on real-world experience. You can probably get away with exercising, exposure to sweat, getting caught under the rain, accidental submersion and showering. Your watch may also withstand shallow-water swimming or snorkeling in a pool or ocean — but not diving, water skiing, deeper submersions, or high-velocity water.

Because the ATM rating refers to static pressure — like testing in a quiet lab or test center under controlled conditions — any dynamic pressure caused by an unpredictable real-world environment may increase the pressure of water exposure that could cause your watch to malfunction.

Don’t forget the bands

There are a variety of colors and strap combinations for the Google Pixel Watch: Matte Black with an Obsidian Active Band; Polished Silver with a Charcoal Active Band; Polished Silver with a Chalk Active Band; Champagne Gold with a Hazel Active Band. There are many other accessory watches bands available in a variety of materials and colors. These range from stretch, woven and two-tone leather to crafted and crafted leather. Next year will see metal mesh and metallic link bands. These bands may not be resistant to water immersion, or light splashing. Google recommends drying your watch and the band after exposure to liquid to protect your skin, watch, or band.

Google Pixel Watch starts at $350 in Bluetooth/WiFi and $400 in 4G LTE+ Bluetooth/WiFi.
