iOS 16: Marking messages as Unread on iPhone

  • Apple now allows you to mark your text messages as unread from the Messages app of iOS 16.
  • You can mark a conversation unread by tapping it to the right, or by tapping and holding it. Then you can choose Mark as Unread from quick actions.
  • The Filters view allows you to see only unread messages.

If you are a regular iPhone user, you know how frustrating it can be to read a message and then forget to reply.

Apple has resolved this issue in iOS 16 with the ability to mark unread messages on the iPhone. You can now mark a message as unread if you don’t have the time to respond immediately. This will remind you to return to it later. To see only unread messages, you can adjust the view in the Messages App.

  • Tap a conversation. You can find the conversation you want marked as unread. Hold the chat button down until the message preview window appears. Then, tap Mark as UnreadFrom the list of quick actions located at the bottom.
