International break: Who goes, and who stays with Premier League clubs

After a chaotic start to the Premier LeagueSeason, the first international break is here.

For England’s Gareth Southgate and other international managers, this two-week window offers a crucial chance to fine-tune World Cup squads. The first game in Qatar is only two months away, but the break offers young players such as Arsenal’s Portuguese midfielder Fabio Vieira Chelsea’s French defender Wesley Fofana, the chance to impress in their country’s youth sides.

West Ham has a highly-constructed squad, so it’s not surprising that many of them were called up.

Lucas Paqueta has, unsurprisingly, been named in Brazil’s squad. Since the beginning of 2021, the 25-year-old has played 1,473 minutes for Brazil, according to FBref.com — more than any of their midfield options.

Michail Antonio will join the Jamaica team, where he has been trying to establish himself ever since he switched allegiances from England.

Vladimir Coufal Tomas SoucekThe Czech Republic’s two mainstays, the national team’s captain, and the vice-captain, were also named to the squad for the Nations League matches against Portugal, Switzerland, and Switzerland.
