Inside Stars’ perfect season opener, with Seguin, Marchment, Johnston leading the way

NASHVILLE — Cheers could be heard outside the visiting locker room and down the hall at Bridgestone Arena. The first wave of noise came at around 10:05 p.m. A few minutes later, there was an audible “19 years old!” yell, followed by another round of cheers.

Pete DeBoer reminded us that this was only one game out of 82. However, this game was flawless.

“If you were going to draw it up, that’s probably what it would look like,” DeBoer said. “Tough building against a really good team. We had a great team effort. Tonight, there were no passengers. I thought everybody contributed.”

Mason Marchment

Dallas had shifted away from signing playmaking forwards who could slot into the top tier of the lineup. Since signing Joe PavelskiThe Stars have mostly signed depth forwards to fill the bottom half of their lineup, which is a major deal in 2019. He was automatically ranked in the top six after Marchment signed for $4.5million AAV. Doing so for four years showed the Stars’ commitment to him.

Last season, Marchment was phenomenal in Florida, but it was only his 3rd season.
