Two of the most talked about TV genres are currently engaged in their first battle for viewership.
Both The Lord of the RingsExpand The Rings of PowerAmazon Prime Video and The Game of Thrones prequel series House of the DragonOn Nielsen’s streaming rankings, HBO was listed for the week from August 29 to September 4.
According to the Nielsen charts The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of PowerScored victory over House of the DragonAccording to, there is a competitor in the same genre: 1.3 billion minutes of video viewed. Variety.
House of the DragonIt ranked No. 5 and attracted 61 percent less viewers (781,000,000 minutes) than its competitors.
This metric does have one drawback: It doesn’t include data on the large portion of viewers who view the series on HBO.
Talking about The Rings of Power’When converted to actual viewership numbers, the metrics for Prime Video look great. It beat Prime fantasy epic The. Wheel of TimeThe average viewership of 6.6 million was recorded over its three first episodes. The first two episodes saw 9.5 million viewers. It had 4.7 million viewers at its premiere. ReacherPrime Video’s other original show, titled “The Other One”, was only able garner half the audience. The Rings of PowerIts first appeal.
The streaming giant has not been pleased with the response of the audience to Tolkien’s new adaptation. Rotten Tomatoes gives the show an 84% score from critics and only 38% from audiences.
Patrick McKay (showrunner) and J.D. Payne was forced to speak out publicly due to concerns about the show’s apparent disconnect from the original author’s narrative.
McKay said to the press that they don’t feel “vaguely connected.” McKay said that we feel deeply, deeply and deeply connected to these people and work hard to keep it that way. We think that’s how it should be.
After receiving many reports about racist trolls targeting cast members, the show responded on Twitter. Many of the show’s cast members were abused online by trolls after its premiere.
