“While Venezuelan, Cuban, and Nicaragua failed regimes continued to drive a wave of migration across western Hemisphere, Venezuelans arrived at the southern border sharply almost every day since we launched additional joint activities with Mexico to reduce irregular immigration and create a safer, more fair, ordered and safer process for people fleeing humanitarian and economic crises in their country,” CBP Commissioner Chris Magnus reported in a press statement.

He continued, “Over the past week the number Venezuelans trying enter the country decreased more than 80 per cent compared with the week prior the launch of the joint enforce actions.” “While this early data is not reflected in the latest report, it confirms what we’ve said all along: when there is a lawful and orderly way to enter the country, individuals will be less likely to put their lives in the hands of smugglers and try to cross the border unlawfully.”

The August figure of 203,598 migrants encountered in August also showed an increase in last month’s numbers.

The September data revealed the fiscal year 2022 ended with 2,378,944 migrant encounters, the highest ever recorded in a fiscal year. This figure does not include the 599,000 known “gotaways” that CBP sources told Fox News evaded capture in the fiscal year 2022.

“CBP and DHS will continue to work with our partners in the region to address the root causes of migration, expand legal pathways, facilitate removals, and take thousands of smugglers off the streets,” Magnus said. “No matter how smugglers claim, those without a legal basis for staying in the country will be expelled and people shouldn’t make the dangerous journey.”

CBP numbers also reveal that there were 20 Terrorists known or suspectedSeptember arrests at the southern border brought the total terror watchlist at the border for the fiscal years 2022 and 98 to 98.
