Jones introduced Senate Bill 1297 in the early part of 2019, which would have required Jones to sign the Illinois Department of Transportation(IDOT) will conduct a statewide review of automated traffic law enforcement system, which includes red-light camera.

Jones later offered to defend one red-light camera in the legislation, according to court filings that were made public Tuesday.

The U.S. Attorney’s office did not name “Company A,” but multiple outlets, including the Chicago Tribune, reported the company as being SafeSpeed LLC.

Later Tuesday, the company released a statement indicating that one of its ex-associates was “engaged criminal conduct and recruited outside persons to further his self-serving purposes.”

“Their actions were clearly in their own self-interest and done without SafeSpeed’s knowledge and undercut the important work SafeSpeed does,” the company said.

“SafeSpeed was founded on integrity and ethics. It holds its employees, as well as its representatives, to the highest standards in conduct and ethics. SafeSpeed has long since ended all contact with its former colleague, and his associates,” said the company.
