Their latest result was Saturday’s 0-0 draw against Crystal Palace. It was a result that saw tremendous improvement in their performance. Rodgers’ face serious scrutiny over his position as manager, before mentioning the weather as a factor in his team’s result, something that led to criticism from Jamie O’Hara and Agbonlahor.

Rodgers said in his post-match interview: “You can see the players are running and fighting.

“They ran themselves into the ground today, it was a hot day as well for them, but they pressed the game, they kept fighting.”

Talking on TalkSPORT, O’Hara said: “Where’s he playing, in Dubai?”

Agbonlahor then added: “When did Leicester become Costa del Leicester? Let’s not be so naive! It was 16 degrees – that’s not hot!

“That shows when managers are feeling the pressure, when they start talking about the weather. What does he do in August in the first two games of the season when it’s a scorcher?

“The way they played today, I hope it’s snowing the next time Leicester play, because they were that bad to watch today. That’s two hours of my life I’ll never get back.

“It was like watching the last game of the season when there’s nothing to play for, and the players know they’ve got Las Vegas booked with the lads and you don’t want to get injured so you don’t have to come in the next day and get treatment, they’ve got flights to be on tomorrow – that’s what it was like.

“It was an absolute shocker. People have been saying to me Aston Villa have been boring, I’ve said it myself, but today’s game was so much worse.

“I hope they had their suntan lotion on today, all the players for both teams – I’ve just looked at the weather reports and it’s a scorching 13 degrees today, with a 70 per cent chance of rain. They’re sunbathing on the rooftops in Leicester!

“How will they cope? Tomorrow they’re going to be coming in with burns on the back of their necks from the sun today…

“Come on, Brendan, come on! There’s excuses, but come on, that’s going to go down as one of the worst excuses you’ll ever hear.”
