Hurricane Ian Flooded The Lower Floor Of The Hospital, and Tore Its Top Off

Hurricane Ian caused flooding on the lower floor of a Florida hospital and tore off its roof, forcing staff members to evacuate its most sickest patients. According to the Associated Press,

Ian Florida’s southern-western coast was rammed by the truckAs a Category 4 Storm on Wednesday afternoon, it brought with it heavy rainfall and wind speeds of upto 155 mph. According to the BBC

Birgit Bodine from HCA Florida Fawcett hospital in Port Charlotte told the AP Hurricane Ian flooded the hospital’s first-floor emergency department and caused the roof to partially fall off of the fourth-floor intensive-care unit. 

According to AP, the hospital is medium-sized and has four floors. 

Bodine explained to AP that the hospital had to be evacuated from the fourth floor to the floors that weren’t impacted by the damage. She added that some of the patients were still on ventilators.

Bodine, a nurse who spent the night at the hospital with patients, stated to AP staff used towels, plastic bins, and other tools to clean up the mess. 

Bodine said that even though everything seems terrible and exhausting, it doesn’t matter as long as patients are doing OK and no one dies or has a poor outcome.

Hurricane Ian left Florida without power for more than 2,000,000 people. According to The Guardian

Thursday morning Hurricane Ian was downgraded from a tropical storm to a hurricane According to the National Hurricane Center. Local officials have repeatedly warned Floridians to be cautious, pointing out that heavy rains and flooding will continue. According to the BBC

It is expected that it will move northeasterly across the state by Thursday night and advance into Georgia or South Carolina on Friday.
