- LinkedIn automatically displays typing indicators and read receipts to the people you’re chatting with.
- You can only accept messages to read receipts. InMail messages don’t qualify for read receipts.
- In the Settings menu, you can control the read receipts.
No matter if you are messaging for work, or for social media, everyone wants to know whether a message was received and read. LinkedIn makes knowing this relatively easy – the professional social network features read receipts that indicate when a message has been opened.
However, read receipts are not mandatory. You can opt to disable read receipts if you prefer to keep your messages private.
LinkedIn: How to read receipts
LinkedIn automatically allows read receipts to be enabled. This means other people can view your normal direct messages and see what they are. A typing indicator can be seen when you are typing a reply to an existing thread.
There are some exceptions. Even with read receipts turned on, users only see receipts within an active conversation – there is no read receipt until you initially accept a message request. LinkedIn does not display read receipts and typing indicators for InMail messages.
