How to get a job as a star in ‘Buying Beverly Hills,’ Mauricio Umansky

  • Mauricio Umanzsky, the star of ‘Buying Beverly Hills,’ is America’s most accomplished real estate broker.
  • Umansky is very selective in who he hires, but doesn’t like to look at resumes.
  • His rules forbid hiring ‘assholes,’ so make sure to impress him by writing a subject line in your email.

Mauricio and Kyle Richards are famed for their roles in “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.”

He’s also the CEO and founder of America’s largest brokerage for real estate, which sells properties such as the Playboy mansion or the Walt Disney estate. He’s now the star of his own property show, “Buying Beverly Hills,” on Netflix. His goal is to surpass “Selling Sunset.”

It is not surprising that Beverly Hills-based The Agency has been chosen. The average sale in this area is worth $2.5 millionIt is a unique place to work.

Umansky also has a set if rules that he uses to hire his next employee in sales, legal marketing, or legal.

With plans to Expand The Agency internationallyThese are the rules for a franchise model if you wish to get a job as a broker.

A resume is not as important as character

As the housing market begins to collapse, high-profile brokers are starting to reduce their jobs. Redfin laid off 470 employees in the last monthWhile Compass let go 450As big companies try to keep up with the falling demand, they are forced to close their doors. Umansky’s plans, to expand The Agency at a favorable time for established realtors.

Umansky does not like resumes. Umansky will hire people with a track record of selling houses worth millions of dollars. However, he is open to young and hungry individuals with no real estate experience.

Umansky stated that “We definitely look more at character than a resume.” Umansky says that not all employees need to be involved in real estate.

“It comes from people that have sold fashion, people that have sold medical equipment, and then there’s people that have never sold anything – they’re just getting out of college.”

Umansky stated that he was seeking someone who is open to building a large network and willing to try new things.

“Finding talent and helping them grow is definitely the most rewarding aspect of my job,” he said.

To achieve this, applicants need to grab his attention in both the subject line of an email and the preview section. Umansky states, “And if I haven’t caught your eye by then? I am out.”

Umansky claims that even after they get through the door, the odds still are against them. Only one fifth of those who apply to The Agency succeed.

‘No assholes’

Umansky As the company emerged from the recession, it expanded. He rejected the idea of agents competing with one another and adopted the “no assholes” rule. Robert I Sutton, a Stanford professor, popularized this phraseAmong them are tech giants Google.

The Agency believes that this includes not taking information from a colleague agent, or misleading clients in order secure a sale.

Umansky states, “I’m looking to find people who believe real estate should not be competitive and not cut-throat. People that are passionate about making this industry better.”

“Unless there are people who have the same qualities we do, quality control will be lost.”

Umansky claims that this strategy has enabled him to help some America’s most powerful brokers, such as James Harris and David Parnes from “Million Dollar Listings”.

It doesn’t make a huge difference if you sell a house worth $100 million or a house worth $5 million. There are just a few extra zeroes.

Umansky is accepting that his Netflix show featuring him and his daughter will debut this weekend. This means that the hiring process may get more complicated and he might have to hire someone who can start looking at his email.
