Google Chrome comes with a native dark option that changes the appearance of the home page, toolbars and settings. If you have set system-wide dark mode for your Android phone, or Windows machine, it will automatically activate. You can also manually set dark mode in Chrome via settings, and in addition to changing the interface, it will also render websites in dark mode — provided they offer that feature.
What about sites that do not offer dark mode? There’s a nifty solution to render all websites in dark mode by default on Google Chrome, and what’s great about this method is that it doesn’t need an extension — so you can use it with Google Chrome for Android as well as Windows.
If you love dark mode and want it to work with all Google Chrome websites, this is what you should do.
How to enable dark mode in Google Chrome for all websites
1. Launch Google Chrome.
2. Write in the address bar chrome://flagsClick here to hit Enter.
3. Search for “Search for” in this page Dark mode. It should display a flag called Web Contents in Auto Dark Mode.
4. This flag is now in place Default. Choose the menuMake your selection Enabled.
5. You should now see the Enabled tag selected. The dialog box asking for Chrome to restart will pop up. Hit Relaunch to continue.
6. Now, all Chrome websites can be set up in dark mode.
This is all there is. This is what I do first on any given day. new Android phoneIt worked for me over a year after I set it up. You don’t have to install an extension to toggle dark modes on all websites.
It doesn’t work on macOS and iOS. Chrome uses WebKit on these platforms so this feature is not available. For Android and Windows, this method is the easiest to enable dark mode for all sites.
