How rare was Phillies’ 6-run 9th inning vs. Cardinals? Stark’s Weird and Wild Six-pack on Day 1 of MLB playoffs

It began at 91 mph Shane BieberFour-seamer at 12:09 PM, Postseason Daylight Time on a beautiful, baseball-packed Friday afternoon. That’s how MLB’s 2022 Octoberfest began. And I don’t know about you, but I couldn’t wait to see what came next.

So I settled in to live out everyone’s October dream — to watch postseason baseball games for the next 11 hours. It was hard work, but someone had to do it.

I swear, I was paying attention. Luis GarcíaI sneaked in a 1-and-2 slider past Francisco Álvarezat 11:08 ET for the 1,040th, and final pitch of today. OK, so maybe it wasn’t rapt attention — but c’mon, man. It was 7-1 in the ninth inning, and I’d been watching baseball games for the last 659 minutes.

So, what was Day One of Wild Card Series weekend? What did you miss? Here’s the Weirdest, Wildest stuff that I found while trying not to fall into a state reminiscent of baseball delirium.

1. Six of one, six of a dozen like no other

I wait all year for the magic of October. I wait all year for the games, the moments, the baseball miracles you never see coming — and then never stop playing on the DVRs in our memory banks.
