How Marvin Harrison Jr.’s work ethic allows him to make the spectacular look routine

Ryne Morrison had never seen such a great catch in high school football.

He’s been the wide receivers coach at St. Joseph’s Prep in Philadelphia for seven years, but he always goes back to the state semifinal game in 2019.

With the season on the line, St. Joseph’s Prep went to its best player. The goal was clear for the quarterback. Malik Cooper: Search Marvin Harrison Jr.

“Our offensive coordinator told our quarterback, ‘When in doubt, just look for 8,’” Harrison said.

So Cooper did. Cooper jumped to his right, and threw it towards the end zone.

“If that thing wasn’t 11 feet in the air it was pretty dang close,” said Morrison.

Harrison skied high into the air and overtook three defenders to bring the ball down. The game went into overtime thanks to Harrison’s catch. St. Joseph’s Prep won the state championship game a week later.

All Harrison was thinking at the time: “Make a play.”

“I knew it was coming to me,” he said. “That’s all you got to do, just make a play.”

Marvin Harrison Sr. was Marvin Harrison’s son and has been making such plays since childhood. From the 2019 semifinal catch to his acrobatic touchdown grab against, Michigan StateHarrison has mastered the art of making exceptional catches look easy by keeping his feet on his ankles and keeping a defender at his side.
