Dame Angela LansburyShe is most remembered for her amazing voice and the captivating roles she played. However, she also died as a fiercely protective mother, steering her daughter away from Charles Manson, the notorious murderer and cult leader.
In a Interview candidLansbury, speaking with the Daily Mail in 2014, said that her daughter Deirdre Shaw was involved with the wrong crowd.
“It hurts me to admit it, but Deidre was once in a crowd that included Charles Manson. She was one of many youngsters who knew him – and they were fascinated. It was clear that he was a remarkable character and charismatic in many aspects.
Lansbury revealed that her son Anthony and daughter Anthony had tried drugs.
Just five days before her 97th Birthday, Dame Angela Lansbury died peacefully in her sleep.

She said, “Certainly, I have no doubt that we would have lost either one or both of them if it hadn’t been moved to a completely new milieu.”
“It began with cannabis and then moved to heroin. She said that there were groups in Malibu dedicated to the pursuit of deadly pursuits.
After she realized how sinister the activities were, she confessed, “I said so.” [husband] Peter, ‘We have to leave.’ So we upped sticks and moved the family to a house I found in County Cork. Ireland was my mother’s birthplace and I felt attracted to it because my children would not be exposed to more negative influences.
Angela Lansbury stated in an interview that Deirdre Shaw, her daughter, ran in the same crowd with Charles Manson.

“Anthony quickly got out of his bad habits. It took Deidre… a little longer but she finally got married and she and her husband now live in Los Angeles, where they run their own Italian restaurant,” she told the British outlet.

Lansbury said, “It fills you with dread,” as she reflected on the possible outcomes for her children if she hadn’t initiated the move to Ireland. “Peter, Peter and I didn’t know what was going on. But we didn’t have any experience with drugs. We didn’t know what it meant to find a pipe in an old drawer. We wouldn’t know why. We didn’t know what to do. There weren’t any experts back then to offer advice to parents of children from decent families who were taking drugs, or sometimes even overdosing, on their behalf. It was like an epidemic.
Charles Manson was the leader and founder of the Manson family, which committed several murders.

In a Tuesday statement, the children of Lansbury stated that “besides her three children, Anthony, Deirdre, and David”, she was also survived by three grandchildren, Peter and Katherine, plus five great grandchildren and her brother producer Edgar Lansbury.”
