‘House of the Dragon’: Larys could be faking his clubfoot; might have burned Mysaria’s building

House of the Dragon’s episode 9 marks the return of two interesting characters: Lord Larys Strong, a.k.a. Clubfoot and Lady Mysaria, also known as Lady Mysaria. The White Worm. The ending of the episode shows a man burning down Mysaria’s building, which possibly could be Larys himself. The episode also moves away from the source material of Fire & Blood, where both these characters have been given good screen time to show their development. Larys and Mysaria are matched up against each other, with Mysaria claiming that they will be granted the Iron Throne’s favor.

Episode 9: Larys is a disliked character when he puts Alicent into a difficult position. He looks at Alicent while he shares information with her. He reveals that Otto was aware of Alicent’s lady-in-waiting, Tayla, has been spying on Alicen for Lady Mysaria. This further splits the green.

Fire and Blood shows Larys twisting his foot from birth. This depiction is still true in the series. His foot fetish is understandable from his experiences, but creepy. Even using a firefly to signify his devotion to setting fire to everything, he even uses it as a sigil. Larys had previously enlisted the assistance of other groups for his misdeeds, but episode 9 suggests that he is acting alone.

Fake the Clubfoot!

If it turns out to be true that it would be entirely different from Fire & Blood book, which makes his character even more terrifying. He also has the upper hand in handling things by himself. He has been very suspicious of his actions throughout this time. He decided to put his sigil on his toe and attach it to his cronies’ collars while they murder and arson. This only adds to the mystery of his grand scheme.

HotD: What does this mean?

Larys’ fake clubfoot allows him the freedom to maximize his power, but also keeps his true intentions a secret. While it difficult to be certain whether it was Larys who burned White Worm’s building, it does open many possibilities for House of the Dragon’s future. In the Fire & Blood book, Larys’ motives were ambiguous, but he was loyal to Alicent’s cause. Larys even participated in the Green Council meeting and suggested that others swear a blood alliance with Aegon, the Elder.

He is not present at the Green Council meetings as a result of the series. This may cause further changes to his character. This, with fake clubfoot, means he is not really keen on the Hightower’s cause. Alicent may be thinking for the realm but Larys is only interested in his own personal gain. It’s just a ploy that deviates people from what he really is.

What does burning Mysaria’s building mean?

Even if he’s not the only one, Mysaria will most likely be on the side of blacks, if she lives. It would be shocking to learn that she has died, considering she played a significant role in the book A Dance with Dragons.

Larys and Mysaria’s showdown shows how the two are likely to be enemies, just like Varys and Littlefinger in Game of Thrones. Larys serves only himself, and he also holds the title Lord Confessor which is similar to Littlefinger. Mysaria tells Otto, “There is no power but what the people allow you to take,” which means she wants the King’s Landing children to be free, which is akin to Varys points about his little birds. Episode 5 begins with Larys telling Alicent about Rhaenyra’s moon tea. Since then, he has caused constant problems. His plots against Mysaria and violence can make for an interesting story arch.
