Although the American singer wasn’t well-known prior to her breakthrough hit, she saw her popularity skyrocket when TikTok’s “abcdefu” trend gained traction. The song was featured in multiple videos and received millions of likes.
The song was first released in 2021. It rose quickly to the top of charts worldwide, surpassing TikTok virality.
Gayle’s song was nominated alongside some hit songs such as “About Damn Time,” “As It Was,” “Bad Habits,” “All Too Well (10 Minute Version),” “Break My Soul,” “GOD DID,” “The Heart Part 5,” “Easy on Me,” and “Just Like That.”
Fans felt that TikTok’s hit single should not have been nominated because there were other great songs that had greater impact over the year.
