Gov. Kathy Hochul is still working on 420 bills before the midterm elections. Race with Rep. Lee Zeldin gets tighter: report

New York Governor Kathy Hochul plays it safe in the lead up to her election with Republican Rep. Lee ZildinAccording to a report, hundreds of bills have been passed and the legislature has yet to act.

Hochul’s alleged inaction on more than 420 pieces of legislation — whether to sign into law or veto — critics say, is an effort to avoid any missteps or controversies that could cause her to slip in the polls in an already-tight race, according to the New York Post.

John Kaehny of Reinvent Albany, the director of the watchdog group Reinvent Albany said that the governor made a strategic choice not to sign or call up a lot and lots of bills before the election. “It’s enormously frustrating.”

According to the report, Hochul’s office has refused to act on bills involving Medical fieldsBanking, real estate, and cryptocurrency mining. The New York Post reported that some companies in these industries have an interest in her campaign.

One bill that has remained idle on the governor’s desk, the “Foreclosure Abuse Prevention Act,” has been there since it passed the state Senate in May.

Sen. James Sanders Jr. urges Hochul to continue to sign the bill.

He stated that homeowners who are facing foreclosure will be the biggest beneficiaries of this important foreclosure bill. “This legislation will greatly assist homeowners in saving their homes from foreclosure. It will level the playing field and eliminate certain abuses by lenders in Courts to homeowners’ disadvantage.

Both state legislative chambers passed the bill earlier in the year. The Senate approved the bill on May 3, by 52-10 votes, and the Assembly passed it on March 23, by 107-40 votes.

As recently as October 28, members of New YorkState Black, Puerto Rican Hispanic, Hispanic, and Asian Legislative Caucus wrote a letter to Governor Hochul requested that Hochul “immediately sign” it into law.

Sen. Sanders said, “With every passing day, New York homeowners lose their homes to what would otherwise have been time-barred foreclosure proceedings.” “We believe that FAPA should be signed into Law in its current form immediately.”

FiveThirtyEight’s polling site found Hochul to be at a steady 80%. seven-point lead over Zeldin. With less than a week before the election, her lead, which was once 18 points, continues to shrink.
