Gov. Janet Mills Criticizes Whole Foods For Taking the Decision to Stop Selling Maine Lobster

  • Whole Foods won’t be selling Maine lobster anymore in its stores.

Whole Foods Market announced it would no longer sell Gulf of Maine lobster. This follows the lead of other retailers who have stopped selling the crustacean due to environmental pressure. 

In a joint statement, Janet Mills, Democratic Maine Governor and other lawmakers expressed dismay at the decision of the grocery chain to cease selling Maine’s lobster.

“We are deeply disappointed in Whole Foods’ decision, and deeply frustrated by the Marine Stewardship Council’s suspension of the lobster sector’s certificate of sustainable continue to harm the livelihoods hardworking men and woman up and down Maine’s Coast,” said the Statement read.
