GOP underdog in his victory over top Democrat

The new elected Mike Lawler, R. New York Rep.-electOn Sunday Night in America, he discussed the effects of his election and the upcoming vote for a new Speaker.

Lawler won a surprise win in his district, not only in a heavily Democratic area, but also defeating DCCC chairman Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney. This was Maloney’s first loss of his seat since 2013.

Lawler credited his win with his focus on constituents’ issues and voters being tired of a “one-party rule.”

“I concentrated only on inflation, criminality, and education. Those were the issues you know my constituents care about. This district is classified as a D+3 on the PVI rating. Joe Biden won it with 10 points. It’s home to Bill and Hillary Clinton, and George Soros. Lawler explained that although this isn’t a strong Republican district, people were tired of New York’s one party rule.

He added, “For first time in our nation’s history, Democrats controlled everything in Washington, Albany and New York City all at once. They caused chaos. A 41-year-old world is at an all time high in inflation, rising crime, and skyrocketing energy costs. People want to see a balanced government and common sense returned to every level. In New York, there was a little bit of a red tide. I believe voters wanted to convey a message.

His election also helped Republicans win the House majority. This will result in a new vote for House Speaker in January. Lawler supported the candidate despite doubts from some that Republicans could agree on one candidate. Behind Rep. Kevin McCarthy R-Calif.

“Listen, Kevin McCarthy is my full support. He has done an excellent job leading the Republican conference for the past four years. He was very supportive of my campaign to defeat Sean Patrick Maloney (chair of the DCCC). And I’m a big believer in you stick with the one who brought you to the dance. This business is one where loyalty is important. Lawler stated that he believes the Republican conference will unite under Kevin as they should.

He added, “I think he will have enough votes to lead the House on January 3rd and set forth the agenda that so many of us ran for.” You know, the commitment to America focused on obviously making the United States and all of our communities more affordable, giving parents a say in their children’s education, securing our borders, securing our freedoms. These were the ideals and values that helped us get elected. And I’m looking forward in getting to work come January to implement that agenda.”

He advised Republican representatives to concentrate on any McCarthy detractors. It is important to focus on the agenda and not on conflicts.

“The objective must be centered on the task in hand. Kevin McCarthy is not the enemy. Here, the enemy is the one-party rule. Lawler explained that the enemy here is the one-party rule and the woke progressive policies which have made our country a total mess.”
