After a chase in Georgia that ended in a shootout in woods, a police K9 and a suspected murder suspect were both killed in a gunfight.
The confrontation turned deadly just before noon on River Road near Interstate 285 after Clayton County police discovered a car linked to the suspect. An investigation into murder, Fox 5 Atlanta reported.
Georgia State PatrolClayton County Sheriff’s Office and they were both called to help with the attempted stop.
According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation the driver initially pulled over at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation but then fled as troopers approached the vehicle on foot.

The state troopers used a PIT maneuver near Flat Shoals Road to stop the driver. The car ended up in the woods.
Authorities attempted to contact the driver to have him removed from the woods, but he refused to cooperate with investigators.
Witness Delbert Sanders said that an officer tried talking to the man while Georgia State Patrol was on the scene. K9 Figohe was “coaxed out” of the woods.
Sanders explained that “a couple of minutes after they sent the dogs into the woods, gunfire started to sound.”

Figo was soon in the woods when the suspect began shooting at him, hitting him multiple times.
Troopers and deputy officers opened fire on the suspect. At the scene, he was declared dead.
K9 Figo died after being rushed by helicopter to Blue Pearl Animal Hospital in Sandy Springs.
The suspect’s identity has not been released by police.
