Gabriel Jesus is ‘ready to play 70 games a season’ for Arsenal

ArsenalForward Gabriel Jesus has said he is “ready to play 50, 60, 70 games per season” for the north London club.

Jesus, 25 years old, joined Arsenal Manchester City this summer and has gained plaudits for his performances this season as he has matured into a reliable focal point up front for Mikel Arteta’s side.

The Brazil international has helped Arteta’s side to a blistering start to the season, where they are top of the Premier LeagueAnd of their Europa League group.

And last week the Arsenal manager was keen to emphasise that the world’s best players “play 70 matches” when questioned about his selection policy with 21-year-old winger Bukayo Saka.

Arteta: “Look at the top players in the world, they play 70 matches, every three days and make the difference and win the game.

“You want to be at the top, you have to be able to do that. If we try to force a younger player to think differently, then I believe we are making a big mistake. [he would] be like ‘No, I don’t play now, on astroturf I don’t play’.

“I don’t want that. They should be brutal every three days. I want them knocking on my door (saying) ‘I want to play, I want to win the game’.

And Jesus appears to have stepped up to his manager’s wishes, telling reporters that he “is ready” to play as many matches as required for his club.

When asked whether he would be tired by the fixture schedule ahead of Arsenal’s visit to PSV Eindhoven in the Europa League on Thursday, Jesus replied: “Of course not.

“I’m doing good recovery after the games – eating better, sleeping better, enjoying the life in the Arsenal t-shirt a lot.

“So I’m ready to play 50, 60, 70 games per season.”

Former City striker commented on Saka and his teammates. Gabriel Martinelli, who he believes are “machines”.

“I think I am a player with a lot of energy and I run all the time, I fight all the time,” he said.

“But when I train every day with them I realise I am not even close to them. They just don’t stop.

“They are machines, quality players as well and they’re still young, both 21.

“I am lucky to play with them.”

Mikel Arteta stated in the pre-match press conference, that the squad has no new injury concerns. MarquinhosDue to illness, he was unable to travel to the Netherlands.

The club hails from London and has qualified for the Europa League knockout stages. They are now hoping to win three points to confirm their status as the winners of Group A.
