Francis Rooney, Former GOP Rep. Says that the ‘World has Moved Beyond Trump’

An ex-Republican member of Congress stated that the American people “moved beyond Trump,” but some of his former colleagues aren’t aware of this. 

Former Florida Rep. Francis Rooney’s comments come days after the death of former President Donald Trump His 2024 bid was launchedfor the presidency, and received a muted reply from the GOP. 

Rooney stated, “The world has moved beyond Trump. But there are some very conservative Republicans who seem to not have that figured it out yet.” “Meet the Press”On Friday, NBC News. “I wouldn’t be for him.” 

Rooney said, “It’s certainly not encouraging.” “While Trump buried US with these elections,” Rooney continued. “So many people are still currying favour and hiding under Trump’s penumbra. I don’t see the value in that and to keep hearingkening back at the past.” 

After midterm elections, where many of Trump’s supporters were present hand-selected candidates lost their races, Republican leaders have Trump’s support was held backTheir endorsement was immediate, which is a stark contrast to previous elections. There are potential candidates who could challenge Trump in the 2024 presidential race. There is no hurry to announce their run – something that typically happens in the summer or fall of the year prior to an election (as opposed to Trump’s hurried announcement shortly after midterm elections). 

Rooney stated on NBC that Americans are more concerned about issues at the kitchen table, like gas prices and inflation than rehashing past events. 

Rooney stated, “I believe they want stability.” “The American people are looking for solutions and not reliving the past,” Rooney stated.

Rooney, who was among the first Republicans to suggest that Trump may have committed impeachable offenses regarding his dealings with Ukraine in 2016, announced his retirement according to Politico. 

Rooney spoke on NBC, saying that “some very conservative people were not happy about me being the first Republican who broke from Trump.” 

He stated that some members of Congress still have strong ties to Trump because they claim their congressional seats. 

Rooney stated that “a lot of these guys” think it’s the most rewarding job they’ll ever have. He said that they hold on to it like barnacles to a piling instead of serving the country and trying to help the people. “The forefathers wouldn’t have thought we would need term limits, because no one wanted that long to serve.”
