Foster Dog Saves His Mom’s Life Just Days After Meeting Her

It was Brownie’s first time ever being in a household when he spent two weeks in foster care with the Analores.

“He was terrified at first,” Molly Analore told The Dodo. “He didn’t know what to do.”

Brownie got a second chance at Colorado shelter after his four previous adoptions had failed. To wait for transport, Brownie needed a temporary home to rest. Analore and the rest of her family fulfilled that requirement.

The first few days of housetraining Brownie was difficult at first, but he soon became more comfortable with it. However, Brownie began to feel more secure when he was surrounded by love and security. Brownie learned quickly how to express his needs to his new family in just a few short days.

“Eventually he would alert me if he had to go to the bathroom,” Analore said. “He would sit by the door and cry.”

Brownie’s usual communication styles were easy for Analore to pick up on, but one night, he did something wholly unexpected. The dog was more interested in advising his mother than telling her he needed it.

Analore experienced fainting episodes and lightheadedness prior to adopting Brownie. Analore felt sick on one of Brownie’s nights, and Brownie immediately noticed.

“He’s not big on cuddling a lot, but he just jumped right on my couch, sat next to me and started cuddling me,” Analore said. “I thought, ‘That’s a little strange,’ but then didn’t think anything else of it.”

Analore held Brownie a while before deciding to let her rest in bed, as she was still feeling ill. Analore was able to keep Brownie’s distance.

“When I went to bed, he was outside my door screaming his head off, scratching at the door and headbutting the door,” Analore said. “That wasn’t normal for him. It was almost like he was trying to say, ‘Something’s wrong, let me in Now.’”

Analore was shocked by his actions and quickly got up to leave the bed and invited her attentive foster puppy into the bedroom.

“He jumped right on my bed, sat next to me with his head on my chest, then once my heart stopped racing and I felt better, he just got up and left,” Analore said.

Analore stated that Brownie has never displayed such behavior before. After her brief bout of fainting, he stopped.

“He just did it all on his own,” Analore said. “He’s such a good boy.”

After spending two weeks with Analore’s family, Brownie was able to move on to his ultimate sanctuary. While he is now in foster care, the Analore family would like to see him return home with them permanently.

“A dog like that only comes around once in a lifetime,” Analore said. “The connection was so strong.”
