The Holy Bible used in “The Shawshank Redemption” has been sold in a London-based online auction for £387,500 (about $440,000).

The film’s book acts as Andy Dufresne’s hiding place. He uses the tiny rock hammer to dig his way through Shawshank Penitentiary.

It follows the story of Andy Dufresne, a banker played by Tim Robbins. He is sentenced to life imprisonment at Shawshank State Penitentiary after he was found guilty of the murders of his wife, and her lover. Morgan Freeman plays Ellis “Red” Redding as his prisoner. 

The plot of the film revolves around the Bible. Norton, a wicked prison warden, hands Dufresne his Bible early in the film and tells him, “Salvation lies inside.”

The film’s climax is when Dufresne escapes from prison and the warden discovers his secret bookkeeping accounts that were illegally switched with the Bible.

Dufresne leaves a handwritten note in his book. He offers salvation to the reader. 

Warden Norton turns the page to reveal the outline of Dufresne’s hammer that he used to tunnel out of the prison. 

According to the Propstore Auction ListThe pivotal scene was only completed with one rock hammer Bible, because the process of cutting out the hammer outline took a lot of time and precision.

The identity of the bidder is not known.

Propstore’s entertainment memorabilia saleIt will end on Sunday, and it is expected that the event will bring in more than 10 million dollars.

Additional lots include Noel Gallagher’s Handwritten lyrics for the Oasis song “Wonderwall” which fetched £46,875 ($53,300), and Gandalf’s sword Glamdring from “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King”, which fetched £262,500 ($298,650).
