Florida man rescues a dog and cat from a docked boat during Hurricane Ian. Newsnation reporter helps

Brian Entin, NewsNation’s correspondent, assisted in the rescue efforts of a dog & cat during Hurricane Ian’s coverage in Florida.

Florida man walked through the waves to rescue the puppy from a sailing boat. Entin then took her into his SUV, where she was placed in the trunk. Entin uploaded a clip of the animal rescue.

Entin claims that the rescuer of the dog also returned to pick up a cat left behind by the storm. You can view the Wednesday video by clicking here or at the top.

Entin tweeted Thursday that the puppy was doing fine and shared a photo of them.

The correspondent was located in Fort Myers, according to NewsNation’s brief report on the rescue. At 3:05 p.m. yesterday (East Coast time), Hurricane Ian made landfall on the state’s southwest coast.

“It’s a totally different situation now along the water. Many of the sailboats are on their sides … the masts have snapped,” Entin said. “It’s just terrible what’s happening down here.”

Entin reports that many Fort Myers residents believed Hurricane Ian would cause a Tampa Storm. According to PowerOutage.us on Wednesday night, the Category 4 hurricane cut power to more than 1.6 millions homes.

As the hurricane’s center moves toward Orlando in the northeast, more disruptions have since been reported in the state’s north-central region.

CNN, The Weather Channel, CNN and other national and regional media sites have also posted firsthand accounts on Twitter. They captured footage of flooding and strong winds and other degrees of destruction.

The Miami Herald reports that while over 2.5 million people in the hurricane’s evacuation zones have left, at least 31 residents on an unnamed barrier island in Charlotte County have chosen to remain and seek refuge.

Other news outlets also highlighted humorous solutions to the crisis like equating flashes with transformer arrivals, checking The Waffle House Index (if the breakfast chain is still open, it indicates where evacuations may be most necessary), etc.
