Although not everyone will be sold on the Ioniq 5’s look, there’s no denying that it will turn some heads. It’s not easy to lose in a parking lot.

For one, I love the sci-fi aesthetic and sharp angles. It’s futuristic, but in a charmingly retro way — like if you asked someone in 1980 to imagine the car of tomorrow. The Ioniq’s “pixelated” taillights and headlights are made of a variety of small squares. They look amazing and very unique.

Ioniq 5 is a small, comfortable vehicle that feels like a minivan. One of my friends said it when he was seated in the Ioniq 5. Although it’s a strong statement, the Hyundai is actually a lot larger than you’d expect for a compact SUV.

Hyundai was not constrained by a large combustion engine or bulky transmission. This allowed it to make huge space in the Ioniq’s interior. The Ioniq 5’s front wheels and rear wheels are farther apart than Hyundai’s larger, three-row Palisade SUV.

Electric cars are by their nature electric. Jump from a StopYou will find a sense of urgency in the Ioniq 5 that is unmatched in other combustion-engine vehicles. The Ioniq 5 is no exception.

My dual-motor, all wheel-drive tester was rated at 320 horsepower with 446 pound-feet torque. If you overdo it (like me), the Sport mode propels it forward with a force almost nauseating. Hyundai claims the all-wheel-drive Ioniq 5 can reach 60 mph in five seconds.

The SUV’s rear motor is the predominant power source in the Eco and Normal modes, and it feels less subdued.

The Ioniq 5 may not be the only vehicle that has a 5-seat. head-up displayThis project important information onto the windshield in front the driver. However, it is still extremely useful.

My speed, cruise control settings and other important data were all visible right on my windshield. I was able to see the road very well. The head-up display even indicates if there’s a car in the Ioniq’s blind spot — an amazingly helpful feature more vehicles should offer.
