2022 was an amazing year in the world of smartwatches. We expect it to get even better in the coming months. Google has two new smartwatches, or three, as we get close to the end. The Fitbit Sense 2The arrival of the swarm was in September 2022. Pixel WatchThe original became available in October. The original is still the best-selling model, but the newer version has been available since October. Fitbit SenseThe latter is Google’s official entry into the smartwatch market starting in 2020.
Google now owns Fitbit so integrating all the best of the old standalone wearable company makes sense. Comparing the Fitbit Sense 2 vs. Pixel Watch reveals that both smartwatches made questionable choices. Let’s take a deeper dive to help you determine which of these smartwatches is best. Fitbit Sense 2 vs Google Pixel Watch : Design
There is a clear difference between the Fitbit Sense 2 and the Google Pixel Watch from the beginning. The first features a square design with a 1.58-inch AMOLED screen covered in Corning Gorilla Glass. With its 1.2 inch AMOLED display, the Pixel Watch is noticeably smaller.
These wearables can be accessed using different interfaces. The Fitbit Sense 2 sports a single button on its left side that works in conjunction with the touchscreen. Google’s Pixel Watch comes with a rotating crown at the right. This rotates to reveal your list of installed applications and doubles up as a button. It shouldn’t surprise that the Sense 2 weighs less, despite having a heavier overall wearable. Google went with a trendy look for the Pixel Watch, which has a Stainless Steel finish that looks great regardless of whether you choose the matte black or shiny silver colors. What might not surprise is the fact that both these smartwatches depend on proprietary connections to the bands. It can be difficult to find the right one if you need it. Google and Fitbit have a lot of first-party band options. The Sense 2 however has the advantage of the same connector that its predecessor. This means it is easier to find third party options if you need something different than what Fitbit offers. Given that the Pixel Watch was the first Google-branded product, we will have to wait and see if other Google bands are made available.
Fitbit Sense 2, vs Google Pixel Watch – Specs and Software Features
Similar to comparing the overall design, these two wearables may be branded smartwatches but the Pixel Watch is the definitive. ActualGet your smartwatch here. The Sense 2 was either Google or Fitbit. This new wearable has been “nerfed” by Google, Google, and/or both. You can’t download or install third-party apps through Fitbit’s Store, and you cannot download music to the Sense 2 to listen offline.
It’s a shame really, because Fitbit revamped the UI using the Sense 2 giving it more of a modern look. Wear OS 3Look and feel. Google Wallet support will also be available, but these apps are not yet available for Fitbit’s latest wearable. We don’t know exactly when they will arrive, but they are expected to be in a future update.
Pixel Watch is, however, a full-fledged smartwatch. You can access all the compatible smartwatch applications on the Play Store and it runs the latest version of Wear OS, version 3.0. You don’t even have to use your Android smartphone to download apps. Instead, you can do it from your wrist via the Play Store.
Google has also released the Pixel Watch with WearOS 3.5. Google Home app for smartwatchesThis is something that will not be available on the Sense 2! The Pixel Watch simply has access to the Play Store, giving it a significant advantage over the Fitbit Sense 2. We are left wondering why Fitbit removed this option.
The Sense 2’s processor is not as powerful as the Sense 1, although Fitbit claims it is faster than its predecessor. To perform the most monotonous tasks, the Pixel Watch uses the Exynos9110 chipset in conjunction with the Cortex M33 processor. This is paired up with 32GB of storage and 2GB RAM. The Sense 2’s battery life is where it shines. Fitbit says that its flagship wearable can run for up to six days on a single battery, depending on how often you track your workouts. The Pixel Watch with its 294mAh battery can only last 24 hours before it will need to be charged. The Pixel Watch could have been matched with the Galaxy Watch 5’s Battery Life, but this really highlights how the Sense 2 is a supercharged fitness tracker rather than a smartwatch.
Fitbit Sense 2 vs Google Pixel Watch – Fitness and health tracking
Let’s start with the basics. It doesn’t matter which smartwatch you choose, you will eventually have to decide if you are willing to spend money on a The Fitbit Premium subscription is well worth it. You won’t be able to find a body temperature sensor, which is something that Samsung and Apple have recently implemented in their smartwatches.
The Fitbit Sense 2 has all of these sensors, and they are enabled. This gives you as much detail as possible from a wearable device. The Sense 2 smartwatch is the best choice if you are looking for a smartwatch that can track your health and fitness more effectively.
Fitbit Sense 2 and Google Pixel Watch: Which one should you choose?
You’ve probably noticed that we didn’t mention the price if you made it this far. It’s not that expensive unless you’re planning on using LTE on your Pixel Watch. The Sense 2 is $299 and the Wi-Fi/Bluetooth Pixel Watch is $349. An extra $50 will not make or break your choice once you get into the pricing tier of smartwatches. Especially considering all that Google’s first smartwatch offers.
It is not as simple as you might think to make a decision between the Fitbit Sense 2 and Pixel Watch. The Sense 2 offers more features for health and fitness, so it’s the right choice. It has a longer battery life and can download music or install apps. However, the Sense 2’s interface is more user-friendly than the original Sense.
The Pixel Watch is an excellent smartwatch that can be used as a companion to your smartphone. However, there are some things to be aware of. These include the lack of a few health monitoring sensors and the poor battery life. The Pixel Watch compensates for these shortcomings by running Wear OS 3, which gives it access to the Play Store.
