Fetterman’s debate performance exposed media malfeasance as he was shielded by industry allies, critics claim

The Pennsylvania Senate debateIt was rare to be able to see John Fetterman, Democratic candidate for the presidency, without being filtered by the media. It wasn’t pretty.

Fetterman suffered a stroke a few days before he won the Democratic primary. His debate performance was filled with gaffes, long pauses and awkward responses. His campaign released a pre-debate statement that essentially admitted defeat to his GOP opponent. Dr. Mehmet OzFetterman’s poor performance in closed-captioning, which the campaign requested because of the candidate’s continuing auditory processing problems, was later attributed to Fetterman.

Nexstar Media Group hosted the debate. It claimed that they went “extraordinary” to accommodate Fetterman. Oz as well as Fetterman were given two rehearsals so that they could practice with the equipment. Fetterman said he chose to do one.

Curtis Houck, NewsBusters managing editor, stated to Fox News Digital that Fetterman’s performance in debate has been defended by the media.

Houck stated that “The liberal media have either suggested Fetterman’s performance was inspirational to the disabled community, or played off the debate as perfectly normal with fierce disagreements about policy.”

Fetterman was largely quiet on the campaign trail ahead of the debate. He had been sidelined for several months while he recovered and only granted a few interviews. Most of these were with MSNBC hosts. The media did not pay much attention to Fetterman’s fitness to serve as a U.S. Senate.

Fox News Digital contributor Joe Concha stated that “this was media malfeasance at its worst” “Ferterman was not asked by major print publications, other than the Washington Post or Pittsburgh Post-Gazette to release his medical records.” Nici did anyone ask him to debate more than one time.”

Concha called Fetterman’s debate a “disaster”, and he stated that Pennsylvania voters were likely to be surprised by the fact that many of the media tried “push this candidate over for the good” of the Democratic Party.

The legacy media used to treat Fetterman with gloves for years, but that was about to change when Dasha Burns, NBC News’s correspondent, sat down earlier this month with Fetterman and gave him his first interview since his stroke. She revealed that a desktop computer could transcribe her questions in real-time.

Burns stated to Lester Holt that he didn’t understand our conversation in small talk prior to the interview.

“Sorry to tell, but I talked with @JohnFetterman for more than an hour without any aides or stops and this is just nonsense. Vox’s Kara Swisher suggested that the reporter might be just not good at small talk.

Molly Jong Fast, podcast host, said that she interviewed @JohnFetterman here. He understood what I was saying and was very funny.

“Here’s my interview with @JohnFetterman from a few days ago. The notion that he wasn’t able to understand is mind-numbingly false,” liberal YouTube personality Brian Tyler Cohen tweeted.

“As someone who has recently interviewed him: Fetterman’s comprehension is not at all impaired. He understands everything, it’s just that he reads it (which requires extra acuity, I’d argue) and responds in real time. It’s a hearing/auditory processing challenge,” New York Magazine writer Rebecca Traister defended Fetterman.

“I interviewed him, there were absolutely no problems. “I probably stumbled more,” Stephanie Ruhle, MSNBC host, wrote in a now-deleted Tweet.

Tom Elliott, Grabien Media’s founder and news editor, said that Burns’ treatment by the media “confirms that their loyalty is greater to the Democratic Party” than their journalistic brethren.

“After the major media spent weeks asking ‘how can Republicans still support Herschel Walker!?,’ they pivoted seamlessly to arguing voters should elect John Fetterman even after suffering neurological damage that’s left him incapable of basic communication,” Elliott told Fox News Digital.

Houck suggested that Fetterman’s debate performance vindicated Burns, and she added that she is certain “she won’t receive one apology.” Concha suggested Kara Swisher be “in front” of the apology, calling her attacks on Burns and defense against Fetterman “all BS.”

Swisher didn’t flinch. Swisher actually doubled down. Swisher answered “None” when asked via Twitter if there were any thoughts about apologizing to Burns. She did admit that Fetterman had a “bad night”
