FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid), opened for the academic year 2023-24 on October 1, 2022. While it may seem early to begin thinking about the next school year as the beginning of the current, you should apply as soon as possible for the best chance of getting the most aid.

The FAFSA forms determine which types of student aid you are eligible for. To determine the amount of financial aid you will receive, you will need to submit several documents.

Many colleges and universities use the FAFSA information to create your financial aid package. This includes aid from the government as well as your school. FAFSA applications can be submitted to up to 10 schools. However, you can add or subtract schools from your original submission.

The FAFSA is available for around 20 months, starting at the start of the application process and ending at the end of each academic calendar. For the best chance of receiving aid from a limited amount of money, you should apply for FAFSA as soon as possible after October 1.

Assistance with limited funds can include grants, scholarships and federal work-study programmes. For a given academic calendar year, you can submit an application up to June 30, but it is best to submit sooner to ensure that your money arrives in time for the school year.

It takes approximately 30 minutes to an hour. Complete your FAFSA. The information you provide on your FAFSA will also be used to determine if you are eligible for college and state aid.
