Experts say Trump investigation special counsel is ‘politically very very significant’ and a serious concern’

Experts argue that Attorney General Merrick Garland’s appointment as a special counsel in several Donald Trump investigations could pose a serious concern for the former president.

Fox News contributor Jonathan Turley joined Shannon Bream (Fox News Sunday) and Gerry Baker (WSJ at Large) on Friday for reaction to Garland’s naming Jack Smith as special counsel in two investigations involving Trump.

“Even the most severe cases in the past have led to relatively minor criminal charges for possessing or removing classified information. Turley explained that obstruction is not the case on Friday’s America Reports.

So obstruction can happen and it has historically been punished with severe penalties. The scope of this investigation is a concern to me.

Garland gave Smith the task to investigate all aspects of the criminal investigation into illegally retaining national defense information at former Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort, Fox News reported.

Smith will also oversee the investigation into Trump’s interference with peaceful transfer of power after the 2020 presidential election. This includes the certification of the Electoral College votes on Jan. 6, 2021.

Gerry Baker, host of “WSJ at Large,” stated that “this part of the investigation does not only concern January 6th.” This is much more than that. “This is the whole effort to interfere with the lawful transfer in power after 2020 elections,” it states.

Garland stated Friday in a press conference that the appointment a special counselor is in the public interest.

However, experts argue that this could increase support for Trump and give the former president another way to get supporters excited as he seeks the presidency in 2024. He told Fox News Digital exclusively that he “won’t partake” in the special counsel’s investigation.

Baker pointed out that Baker’s announcement is “politically, extremely, very significant.”

Bream stated, “The question for me politically is whether Donald Trump actually takes it and leverages that to his advantage.” Bream also noted that this stage in the investigations into Donald Trump “broad tentacles.”

The Justice Department is moving forward in its investigation of former President Trump. These investigations will definitely have an effect on former Campaign of President TrumpAlthough the exact impact of this is unknown,

Baker stated, “Whatever the real rights and wrongs may be, whatever we learn from this investigation, many people simply will believe this to be just yet another attempt of Donald Trump’s enemies, to use the law as a means to pursue him.”

“That is, unfortunately. It’s how a lot of people will see it. And it will likely rebound in his favor politically in that regard.”

Bream stated that Garland’s move was just “another iron of that fire” for the former President, who could then use it politically in the race for 2024.
