Evangelos Marinakis was the man who brought Nottingham Forest back into the Premier League

There’s no doubt he has an aura.

Evangelos Marinakis takes the place that was made for him by the new owners of Nottingham Forest. It’s not quite the throne but it is much larger than any other. Every home game, it is polished. It is the only stadium seat with a unique cover.

He was not a regular visitor to Nottingham at one time and it was rare for him to attend games.

Marinakis first saw the City Ground in 2017 and his companions recollect his darkened face when he saw how far it was from the Karaiskakis stadium. Olympiacos is his Greek club.

Forest are back this season in the Premier LeagueMarinakis divides his time watching Olympiacos and flying back to England, if not already there, to watch the team he’s helped to finance with a financial flex.

Fans are thrilled to see him. They wave from various parts of the stand. On television, at the first game of the season, one supporter shook his hand and followed it up by genuflecting — arms up, palms out — in his direction. Marinakis brought Forest back into the Premier LeagueHe is now a household name after spending 23 years in the wild.

He has great ambitions for Forest. He introduced himself to Forest this summer. England’s top division
