England’s Kyle Walker-Peters a doubt for World Cup after hamstring injury

Kyle Walker-PetersIt is not difficult to see why World Cup — adding to Gareth Southgate’s headache over the right-back position.

The Southampton defender has picked up two caps this year and with a growing injury list in that position, could have been in the mix for this winter’s tournament.

Walker-Peters, 25, had to leave the pitch in the second-half of Southampton’s 1-0 win over Bournemouth on Wednesday.

Ralph Hasenhuttl now doubts he’ll be fit enough to play in the World Cup. He said: “We have another big injury that costs us a player for the long term. Kyle Walker-Peters is out and is the next one we will definitely lose in a position where we don’t have a lot of alternatives.

“It’s a hamstring injury. So we will see how long as there’s a lot of blood. He did it after taking an extended step towards the ball and trying hard to make the tackle. Here was where the injury occurred.

“There’s not a time for it. We don’t know it yet (if he will be fit in time for the World Cup). We can’t be 100 per cent sure how tough it is. But for this weekend and for the next, he’s definitely out.”

Walker-Peters will miss Southampton’s clash with league leaders Arsenal on Sunday.
