England ‘sleep-walking into disastrous World Cup’ and this is ‘the beginning of the end for Gareth Southgate’ as fans call for Three Lions boss to be sacked before Qatar 2022 after Nations League relegation

England fans are worried ahead of the World Cup, following the 1-0 loss to Italy in Nations League.

The League A relegation was also sealed. End result marked a fifth match without a win for Gareth Southgate’s side.

It is the nation’s worst run of form since 2014 and, despite some of the world’s best attacking talent, their form in front of goal makes for even Grimmer reading.

The Three Lions have not scored from open play for 450 minutes of football. This is their worst run since 22 years and a record that’s on par with San Marino in Nations League.

With Qatar 2022 a matter of weeks away, fans are understandably concerned – even if Southgate believes the team is on the right track.

Jason Cundy, ex-Chelsea defender and talkSPORT host suggested that this may be the beginning of the end.

Cundy told talkSPORT: “Right now, our nation are sleepwalking their way into a World Cup that is going to turn into an absolute disaster.

“I said ‘stinking the place out’, I can’t think of another description to describe what England are doing under Southgate.

“I have actually been a supporter of Gareth. He’s done a great job and has changed our perception of the England team.

“Now, I think we’re looking at the beginning of the end of Southgate.

“Tonight’s performance, it was better, that wasn’t difficult – but you have to call things as they are and we are going nowhere.

“If this was Premier League or Champions League and we saw that performance, the rhetoric would be that he’s lost the dressing room and they’re not playing for the manager.

“That, to me right there, is very worrying.”

#SouthgateOUT trended on Twitter, and Twitter users called talkSPORT with their discontent.

Adam, an England supporter, said: “He needs to go before the World Cup.

“I wouldn’t even put him on the flight back with the players!

“It needs to happen. Let’s be honest, with those five results in the Premier League, he would’ve been gone a long time ago.

“He said that was a close performance? What!?”
