England players in good ‘moments’

England can’t get lost in the euphoria of their comeback — or, more precisely, cannot afford to ignore the issues that made it necessary. It’s not a coincidence that their best piece of football in the second half involved a combination between two substitutes, Mason Mount and Bukayo Saka, who entered the pitch seemingly free of inhibition and determined to impact the outcome of the game.

It’s a lesson. It’s a lesson about substitutes and their timing. But it also teaches us that international and club football are not two separate entities. Mount is not having his best season but he isn’t in the same negative spiral as his teammates.
