Emily Blunt explains why the “strong female lead” label is so boring to her

Emily Blunt recently said that she was bored with scripts that refer her character to a “strong, female lead”. She rejected the label. You can see Blunt currently in The EnglishThe BBC Two miniseries “The Revenge Mission” portrays a woman on a vengeance mission in the 1890s America.

During an interview with Telegraph (via IndieWire), Blunt revealed, “It’s the worst thing ever when you open a script and read the words strong female lead. It makes me squirm. I’m already out. I’m bored. Those roles are written as incredibly stoic, you spend the whole time acting tough and saying tough things.”

Blunt did not have to compromise her character in Hugo Blick’s limited series. According to Blunt, Cornelia is her character. The EnglishIt is even more amazing. “I loved Cornelia’s buoyancy, her hopefulness, her guilelessness…Cornelia is more surprising than that. She’s innocent without being naive and that makes her a force to be reckoned with,” she said.

Blunt portrays a frontier girl in The English Her son was killed by her husband. Cornelia is joined by Eli, an Indigenous farmer played brilliantly by Chaske Spencer. Both are on a mission for revenge and want to reclaim their land.
