Elon Musk could cut half of Twitter’s workforce

Twitter employees are bracing for layoffsElon Musk has officially taken over the company. Details are slowly being revealed about how many people may be affected. Wednesday evening, The Verge’s Alex HeathReportsMusk is currently meeting with advisors including David Sacks (an ex-executive at PayPal) to finalize a plan for laying off approximately 3,800 employees. Bloomberg reportedThat would mean that 3,700 people would have to be eliminated.

According to BloombergMusk plans to notify employees on Friday about layoffs, and workers affected could receive 60 days of severance. Musk is also planning to end Twitter’s policy that allowed employees to work from home “forever,” Bloomberg reports. This would line up with text messages we’ve seen from another advisor, Jason Calacanis (revealed as part of Musk’s court caseWhen he was still trying out to buy Twitter), he suggested cutting remote work to encourage voluntary departures. Tesla is against remote work.
