Republican Kelly Cooper was defeated in Arizona’s 4th Congressional District by Greg Stanton, a Democratic Rep.

Arizona’s 4th Congressional Representative District candidates

Stanton serves as a member of the Committees on Transportation and Infrastructure and the Judiciary. Before his time at CongressFrom 2000 to 2009, he was on the Phoenix City Council and from 2012 to 2018, he was mayor of Phoenix. Stanton, as mayor, led a transportation initiative that expanded the city’s lightrail system.

Stanton was the Arizona deputy attorney general before he entered public office. 

Stanton’s challenger Cooper, is a Veteran of the US Marine CorpsRestaurant owner. He is also founder and chairman, Maricopa County Republican Veterans Committee. 

Cooper won a five way Republican primary and narrowly defeated Tanya Wheeless (28.5%) to (25.4%). 

Arizona’s 4th Congressional District: Voting history

Arizona’s 4th Congressional District can be found in Maricopa County. It covers Tempe as well as parts of Mesa or Chandler. 

In 2020, Joe Biden beat then-President Donald Trump by 23 percentage points. The district was redistricted following the 2020 Census. Redrawn to add Mesa east Highway 87This makes the district less Democratic-leaning.

The money race

According to OpenSecretsStanton raised $4 million, spent over $4.6 million and had $470,000,000,000 on hand as of October 19. Cooper raised $1.6million, spent more that $1.3 million and had $242,000 cash.
