The EFL has made progress towards lifting England’s traditional 3pm television blackout.
It issued a request in principle for broadcast rights beginning in 2024-25, when Sky Sports ceases to exist.
An EFL statement on Wednesday said: “Rights for all 1,891 matches across the league, EFL Cup, EFL Trophy and all end of season play-off matches are available for prospective bidders.”
This would apply to Saturday 3pm games that are currently subject in the United Kingdom to a blackout. The blackout was introduced in the 1960s to protect lower league attendance.
It is implemented UEFA through article 48 of their statutes at the request of England’s Football Association. Only England and Montenegro, Scotland, or Montenegro, have blackouts in place.
