Eero ends its $30 a year Eero Secure subscription plan

Today, subscribers to the now-defunct cheaper plan, Eero Secure, started to receive notifications that their plan was ending and would be transferred to the new — more expensive — Eero Plus plan starting on November 15th.

A subscription is not required to use Eero devices, but without one, you can’t set parental controls or see how devices behave on your network, including how much data is being used. These services are provided by most router manufacturers for no cost. You can take, for example: Google Nest WifiIt offers free parental controls and network activity information on its mesh network system.

Eero offers existing Secure users 50% off Eero Plus for one year. However, this still means that they will be paying at least $20 more than the $29.99 per year or $2.99 per month they were paying. After the discount year, they will be paying the full $9.99 per month or 99.99 dollars annually.

The new Eero Plus is the same price and has the same features as Eero Secure Plus. Eero says it will add an internet backup service in the coming months.

Eero Plus Plus comes at the same cost and offers the same features that Eero Secure Plus. Eero promises that it will offer an internet backup service within the next few months.

The Eero Plus service includes all the services that were part of Secure — such as parental controls, ad blocking, and network activity data — and adds Dynamic DNS remote network access and annual subscriptions to Malwarebytes antivirus, 1Password password manager, and Encrypt.me VPN service. If you are already paying for one or more of those services, the plan makes sense, but if you aren’t interested in those, it’s less compelling.

Eero brings you a new internet backupEero Plus offers a wireless connection service that allows you to connect to an alternate internet source to your network in the event of your main service going down. However, it is questionable whether this $10 monthly fee is worth it.

Unfortunately, opt-out is not possible for this change. To avoid being charged automatically for Eero Plus, Secure subscribers who have not renewed must cancel their plans by November 15th. Cancel at account.eero.com.
