Doug Ducey felicitates the New Governor of Arizona in Snub at Kari Lake

Republican Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey congratulated Katie Hobbs (Democrat), after she received enough votes to succeed her despite Kari lake, her Trump-backed GOP competitor, refusing to concede defeat. 

Hobbs was projected to win the Arizona gubernatorial election last week. Her 17,000 vote lead made it impossible for a recount under Arizona laws.

Lake claimed that Lake was her, but without supporting evidence. A group of supporters was disenfranchised, prevented from voting and demanded a second round.

Ducey seemed to ignore Lake’s earlier statements and congratulate Hobbs on her victory, promising to smoothen the transition of power. 

Ducey said, “Today, I congratulated Governor Katie Hobbs for her victory in a tough race and offered my full cooperation as he prepares to take the leadership of Arizona.” Statement.

He said, “My administration will work hard to make this transition smooth and seamless.”

 

Lake, a former TV news anchor, closely imitated former President Donald Trump’s strategy in the November 8, midterms. After refusing to acknowledge the outcome before the election, she raised allegations of fraud following her defeat.

“We cannot permit an election like this. “What they did on Election Day is to punish election day voters was outrageous.” Lake made the comments in a Twitter video posted Wednesday.

Trump famously refused defeat in the state following the 2020 presidential election and stirred voter fraud allegations.

Trump criticized Ducey for not helping him in his attempt to subvert the results. This result saw Democrat Joe Biden win state’s presidential election.

Lake has taken advantage of problems with voting machines within Maricopa County, Arizona’s largest county, to cast doubts on the results of the midterms.

Arizona state election authorities stated that there were printing issues in about 70 voting centers. This did not stop any voters from casting ballots.

Democratic candidates are also projected to be winners in the state’s Senate and Secretary of State races, against Trump-endorsed Republicans who push voter fraud claims.

Trump’s support for the election fraud “Big Lie”, was one of the criteria he used to select candidates he endorsed during the 2022 midterm elections. Many were defeated in their races. Those who made fraud claims later on have been dismissed. Leaders of the Republican Party largely ignore them.
