DOJ seeks jail time for Capitol Rioter who called himself ‘Hitler on Steroids.’

Prosecutors allege that Reid was at the heart of the Capitol breach. He was also among the first rioters who entered the building through a window that had been broken on Jan. 6. In a Monday court filing, prosecutors recommended that Reid spend 78 months in prison in prison — a sentence that would fall “in the middle” of sentencing guidelines for his crimes. NBC News reporter Ryan J. ReillyThe recommendation was reported by the first person to know. 

Reid, prosecutors stated, showed no remorse in the aftermath. He instead boasted of the “inspiring” violence and said that he had “just started.” On Jan. 6, Reid posted on social media that he would never forget the terror he saw in the eyes of the officer. According to the sentencing memo, the memory “fuels” him now.

Court documents show that Reid continued to post hateful remarks on Discord and Instagram. He also expressed a desire to murder minorities. Prosecutors said that Reid described himself as a “Hitler on steroids” who threatened to kill “em all” since “they all deserve death.” 

Reid also made threats against federal investigators via online posts. In a January 12, 2012 post, Reid promised that he would not “sit in jail for standing up for our right” and said “they’ll have the nerve to kill me.” Court documents confirm this.

Authorities ultimately arrested William Rogan Reid on April 1, 2021 — the same day he told his Discord followers that he wanted to stage an April fools joke on the FBI. In an attempt to hinder their investigation, he later admitted that Rogan Reid was disabled and had hidden his cellphone. 

Reid will be sentenced next month. Insider asked Reid’s lawyer for comment but was not immediately able to respond.
