DOJ Files Motion for Speedy Appeal of Mar-a-Lago’s Special Master

  • The Justice Department requested that the court speed up its appeal against the special master’s appointment.

The Department of Justice seeks to expedite its appeal of Mar-a-Lago’s court decision to appoint the special master to review the documents.

In a new FilingFriday’s statement by the Justice Department stated that the special-master review was preventing it from achieving its goals Criminal investigationIn the handling of the documents.

After an earlier court decision,  federal prosecutors had only been allowed to access seized documents that had classification markings while the special-master review unfolds. However, the prosecutors stated that they needed to examine the thousands of documents that were seized in order to conduct their investigation. Even though they aren’t posing the same security threats as classified documents,

The Justice Department motion said reviewing the unclassified materials could help them figure out how the classified documents ended up at Mar-a-Lago, among other factors.

Judge Aileen Clinton Cannon granted the request and appointed a special master as suggested by Trump’s legal team.

In its motion on Friday, the Justice Department requested the legal briefings in the special-master appeal be sped up to conclude in mid-November. If the government grants its request, Appeal, a decision that will not be made by Cannon, the special-master review could abruptly end.
