A hilarious video of a “sassy” German short-haired pointer hesitantly showing affection for her owner has gone viral on TikTok. When Stella is repeatedly requested to do so in the video, she “begrudgingly” slams her paw onto her owner, @jencosy. The caption for the clip reads, “When you’re trying to watch your show and your human is being super needy.”
One user commented, “If someone ever asks you to define the word ‘begrudgingly’ show them this.”
While the directions “sit” and “heel” can be pretty helpful, “paw” is mostly just a method for you and your dog to bond and a technique to have them work for a treat.

Sit. After your dog sits, reward him with something good. It encourages them to move and lets them know that there are rewards they can get.
Empty hand. Hold out an empty hand level with your dog’s chest, with the palm facing up.
Sniff.Let your dog wait while your explain to him where your hand is before you let him sniff or lick it.
Wait.Watch for anything other than your dog sniffing your hand or licking it. He will eventually get curious and touch your hand with his paws.
Reward. Praise and reward your dog as soon as he elevates his paw, even if he doesn’t touch your palm.
Repeat.Continue this process until your dog begins to lift his paw rather than sniffing at you or licking your hand.
Command. Every time you place your hand palm up close to your dog, start saying the order “shake” or “give me your paw.”
Pray. You can repeat this multiple times per day until your dog is comfortable with the command. Your dog should elevate his paw and place it in your hand every time you say “shake” or “give me your paw.” Make sure to thank him for a job well done each time.
