Dissecting Braves’ shocking early playoff exit, Dansby Swanson’s situation

Brian Snitker, if he was going to Truist Park on Sunday. BravesManager wanted it for a winner take all fifth game in the NLDS against Philadelphia, or be there to get ready for Tuesday’s NLCS opener. But, no. He was there to do something entirely different, and it wasn’t nearly as satisfying.

Snitker and Braves president of baseball operations Alex Anthopoulos did a Zoom interview Sunday with reporters to discuss the rather shocking early postseason dismissal of the Braves, whose 8-3 loss on Saturday at Philadelphia gave the NL East’s third-place team a 3-1 NLDS win over the five-time division champion and 2021 World Series champions.

“It was like, man,” Snitker said of how he felt the day after his team was eliminated. “Disappointed. “Disappointed. It’s a bit frustrating to think back to last year and expect to do it again. I mean, there’s like unfinished-business type stuff.”

Anthopoulos was discussing injured second baseman Ozzie Albies in the visitors clubhouse during Saturday’s game when the Braves fell behind 3-0 in the second inning and 4-1 after three, and Albies reminded him of how bright the future was for a team loaded with young talent.

“He just saying, ‘Man, we have a great team,’” Anthopoulos said. “And we really do. We have a great group of people to work with. It is clear that the goal is win. You have to look at the bigger picture and realize that we have a great team. We just didn’t get the job done in 2022.
